What the Media Is Not Telling You: Your Doctor’s Days are Numbered
Don’t let the media fool you. Ontario Doctors in outpatient clinics are suffering.
We all have them, and we all need them.
Doctors are an incredibly important part of our lives. Although you may not be scheduled to have surgery on a regular basis, you will most definitely set foot into a Doctors Office regularly for you or for your family. You may even see a specialist outside the hospital for ongoing care for a specific issue you have.
When you Google “family doctor …” you often find the most common suffixes “near me” or “who is accepting new patients” or “shortage”. You then find things like “complaints” and “how to de-roster from a family doctor”.
Did you know that over 800,000 Ontarians do not have a family doctor and our province has the fewest doctors per capita? (Goldstein, 2015) Where do people go when they have no family doctor? Often times they go to the Emergency Room at their local hospital, and sometimes are even forced to do that despite having a family doctor, because they do not have the space to accommodate them urgently.
