Are you naturally a morning person? Can you function easily on 6 hours of sleep or less? Does the idea of waking up bright and early to accomplish a myriad of tasks before noon sound not only appealing and possible, but a frequent occurrence?

Congratulations, you are a Short Sleeper.

Do you dread your alarm clock? Do you feel deprived if you sleep for less than 9 hours? Are you more productive in the afternoons and the evenings? Do you find yourself drowsy and dependent on coffee and voodoo magic when you find yourself sleeping 8 hours or less? Do you find yourself napping during the day to make up for lost sleep at night? Do you fall prey to the symptoms of Insufficient Sleep Syndrome when you go for an extended period of time without 9–11 hours of sleep at night?

Join the club. You’re a Long Sleeper.

My Story

Before I get into the science and nitty gritty research, I’d like to share my story and the reason why I became curious about the subject.

According to my Mother, I slept through the night from 18 weeks old. I didn’t nap throughout the day and I consistently slept at least 9 hours per night…
