I was just discussing this with a professor in lecture today. We were discussing the concept of adding friction in design and how “smooth” and efficient design actually reduces our ability to think and make critical decisions. When design is too smooth, our actions are instinctual and therefore almost subconscious in a way. There is a delicate balance between creating just enough efficiency and smoothness to keep up with the modern pace, but still engaging enough to allow cognitive exercise that keeps us sharp and in control.
Great article. I’m very happy I stumbled upon this and I hope to see more in the future!
