During my Professional Practice course for my degree, our Profs specifically said to the women in class: Take off ALL your rings four or five days before the interview and do not keep them on your person during the interview. If women are engaged, married or in a committed relationship, employers are automatically discriminating against that female employee. During an interview, if we were asked about our relationship status for any reason, we were taught to give a neutral answer, or divert the question back to a job appropriate context. If we were asked about our five year plan, we were told to never include anything personal, even if they ask about it. If they do ask about it, provide a neutral but career focused answer. The fact that it was built into our lesson plan to discuss this with the women of the class was nothing short of heartbreaking. I understand how businesses run, and that the bottom line must be preserved at all costs, but it’s very disheartening to be discriminated based on a biological feature we cannot control.

It’s absolutely sickening that it’s almost 2020 and women are having to HIDE these aspects of themselves out of fear of job discrimination, while men are constantly given positive social points for the same things.
