A Meditation on Social Media

The effects of self-curated utopia on politics, psychology and society

Currently, the most troubling contemporary technology in relation to advertising, politics and society is social media. It create a vicious cycle that perpetually encourages poor psychiatric and mental health, even in those with no genetic predisposition. The nurturing of this first world digital disease is a multi-faceted answer, and although many impose strict digitally minimal lifestyles, it has become homogenized into our society as a whole.

To Connectivity and Beyond

The initial selling point of social media was the concept of hyper connectivity that transcends natural and physical barriers we normally find our social model. The Silicon Valley pioneers of social media said that distance, money and resources to travel were no longer barriers to contract meaningful relationships. This inter-global connectivity created a virtual network curated exclusively by the individual.

However, the curation of the virtual versus the actual reality poses significant and catastrophic risk to our evolved societal structure. We are blurring the lines of our perceived reality.
